Playing our part in the WW1 village remembrance day
Yardley Arts was proud to play a part in the village remembrance day. As a contribution, we created 12 silhouettes of WW1 soldiers, three of which were erected around the village and described by villagers as "evocative in the morning mist”.
We dramatically lit four in a red light as an installation in the windows of The Old School Hall, placed two more on guard at the Village Memorial and had two standing poignantly beneath the cross in St Andrews Church.
We were especially proud to provide one to Yardley Primary School, as part of their stunning vision of a soldier standing in a field of poppies created from the base of plastic bottles (real recycling!).
We plan that the soldiers will be used in future years alongside silhouettes from other conflicts, in memory of the innocents from all nations and persuasions that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their countries. Never forget.
