South Northants Art Trail - meet Marlene Snee
Northamptonshire-based artist, Marlene Snee says her inspiration comes from her love of nature, the local countryside and some of the places she has visited around the world.
She has been drawing and painting ever since she can remember and, over the years, has received a lot of encouragement by some wonderful tutors who’ve helped her progress in her artwork.
Most of her work is in watercolour, as she is endlessly fascinated by the wonderful luminosity and transparency of colour and the slight unpredictability of this medium, which makes it very exciting.
A lot of Marlene’s work is in a colourful, loose and experimental style, which allows her to use her imagination and create art of a more personal nature.
For some years now, she has also been practising the ancient art of Chinese Brush Painting, which tries to capture the essence and spirit of an object, rather than reproducing it as it is seen. She loves the simplicity and spontaneity of this art form and finds it not only a constant challenge, but also a source of great pleasure and satisfaction.
More recently, Marlene has been learning linocut printing, a completely different approach to creating an image, but no less fascinating, she says. To portray her chosen subject matter, which ranges from landscapes to flowers, the human form to animals, she also enjoys using pastels and mixed media.
You can see more of Marlene’s work on her website or Facebook, or by coming along to the South Northants Art Trail at Yardley Arts, from Saturday 2 to Sunday 10 October.
