If you want to learn more about using collage alongside other mixed media in your work then this weekend course will set you on the right track and open up a new creative avenue.
Come to our beautiful village setting and enjoy the guidance from our inspirational collage artist Emma Lindsay in our stunning building.
We will experiment with a rich variety of materials to make vibrant work exploring surface, form and composition, colour and pattern.
On Saturday we will look at a variety of artists who have made effective use of working with collage in their work such as Julian Trevelyan, Jacqui Mair, Mark Cazalet, Peggi Kroll Roberts and others, and be inspired by them to make our own compositions.
We will make collage papers, freely expressing ourselves with mark making techniques and experimenting with colour, shape and value.
On Sunday we will make layered collage pieces using our collage papers and other materials. We will experiment with a composition using as our reference either still life objects or working from photographs or other reference materials.
Your final piece of work will be a collage/mixed media on a sheet of Fabriano Pittura 400gsm cold pressed paper, up to 50 x 70 cms.
What to bring and what is included
Have a look at some of the work of aforementioned artists online. This may inspire you to bring in some reference material such as photographs, photographs of artwork or objects to work from to make your collage. Alternatively Emma will create Still Life displays for you to work from
An iPad or similar to look at artists’ work could be useful but not essential
Drawing and painting materials including all papers, brushes, gel medium and stencils will be provided, and you will be making your own collage papers
In addition, you may want to bring in any existing collage materials you already have that you could include in your final collage and any favourite paints, markers, coloured pencils, crayons, inks or paints – but this is optional as Emma will have plenty of materials available
Coffee, tea and biscuits available in the kitchen
Bring a packed lunch or if you want to go to the pub, a few doors up we have the fabulous Rose & Crown pub, which we highly recommend. Do book your meal in advance https://www.roseandcrownbistro.co.uk
