Watercolour is a wonderful medium to paint landscapes. During this workshop we will create lively contemporary artworks of a bluebell wood and explore how to create effective light, atmosphere and of course trees and a carpet of vibrant bluebells. Using wet into wet techniques we will paint at a bold, brave scale to help loosen up our brushwork.
Nicky is well known for creating bold and beautiful floral artworks in her signature expressive style. Watercolours can become a little tight and lacklustre so you will be encouraged to free up your paintings and lift them from drab to fab, ignited with light and colour!
Learn how to mix successful shades of purple and green so your colours radiate from the page. Understand how to create harmonious connection in your pictures, combining soft focus with depth and contrast so your artworks burst with spring joy. Gain a better understanding of colour mixing and using a limited palette to avoid dull muddied colours.
“Nicky’s workshop was most helpful in giving me feedback on my materials. I found the step by step approach enabled me to learn new skills and produce a painting of which I was proud. Would recommend definitely.”
Nicky will demo the stages of a painting and watercolour techniques which you will then use to create your own painting in a vibrant and loose watercolour style, she will give one to one guidance and support to help your painting skills progress and loosen up your style to achieve lively lucid paintings.
You can transfer the tips, tricks and knowledge Nicky offers to many subject matters in watercolour.
Who is this workshop for?
18+ years
Mixed level - although some experience even if just a little is helpful as the tutor covers lots of technique but does not cover very basic knowledge during a general workshop so it would not be appropriate for an absolute beginner with no drawing or painting experience.
Contact tutor direct to discuss if the level is suitable for beginner options.
“I have been attending Nicky’s watercolour classes for a number of years and can highly recommend them to anyone wishing to improve. With interesting subject matter such as flowers, birds, animals and landscapes she guides you through the processes from the initial drawing, mixing paint colours and consistency, to building up paint layers to a completed painting. I’ve learnt so much from Nicky and look forward to learning more in the future.”
